ADVANCE YOUR HANDPAN PLAYING SKILLS WITH PETER BOGNAR
About This Event
Bazaar Bustle – Middle Eastern Grooves & Composition
In this intermediate-level session we will learn the full five-page composition “Bazaar Bustle” from beginning to end. The piece is strongly inspired by Middle Eastern rhythmic patterns, offering participants the opportunity to explore several characteristic grooves from this rich musical tradition.
Throughout the workshop we will work with chord playing and rhythmic chord techniques, learning how to build melodies, themes, and variations on top of rhythmic foundations. Participants will also be introduced to the slap sound, an expressive percussive technique that adds energy and character to the music.
Beyond the technical elements, this composition is also a great case study in songwriting and musical structure. We will see how a full piece can be developed step by step — from the introduction and main theme to variations, transitions, and a satisfying ending.
The workshop is best suited for intermediate players, though motivated beginners may also be able to follow along. It offers a fun and inspiring way to deepen your rhythmic vocabulary while learning a complete and engaging handpan composition. ✨
